Jackie Barnett

Jackie Barnett is a Senior Lecturer in Food Systems at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS). Her research focuses on biosensors for diagnostics, virology, and antiviral development, with a particular emphasis on pathogen detection in food production, urinary tract infections, and cancer biomarkers. She has secured over £2.5 million in funding from NIHR, Innovate UK, and GCRF, and collaborates with organizations like Clarity Biosolutions, Mars Wrigley, and the Bristol Urological Institute.

Her educational background includes a BSc and PhD. Key research areas include the development of point-of-use diagnostics using novel technologies, such as magnetic biosensors for viral detection in livestock and human diseases.
