Jack Wells is an Associate Professor of History in the Social Science Department at Emory & Henry College, where he teaches courses on the history of pre-modern Europe, ancient myths and rituals, and the history of China. His research centers on the political and religious dynamics of the ancient Mediterranean world.

Dr. Wells specializes in the religious and political history of the ancient Mediterranean, with a focus on Republican Italy and the late Roman Republic. His recent research includes temple plundering in Italy during the 3rd and 2nd centuries BCE and the interplay between religion and politics in the 1st century BCE. He is currently supervising a student honors thesis on Christian heresies in late antiquity and plans upcoming research on the religious dimensions of the rivalry between Cicero and P. Clodius Pulcher.
Dr. Wells has been recognized for his teaching excellence, receiving the Exemplary Teaching Award from the United Methodist Church in 2010.

He actively mentors undergraduate students in historical research and continues to develop new scholarly work in ancient religious and political history. His academic office is located in Fulton Hall, Room 203, Emory, VA.
