Dr. Jack Neylon is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where he also directs the Therapeutic Medical Physics Residency Program. He earned his PhD in Biomedical Physics from UCLA in 2016 and completed a clinical residency in medical physics at the same institution in 2018. Certified by the American Board of Radiology, he rejoined UCLA as faculty in 2020.
His research integrates biomechanical modeling, radiotherapy automation, and clinical data innovation, with emphasis on:
- Motion tracking and deformable image registration for adaptive radiotherapy
- AI-driven clinical workflow optimization and software development
- Quantitative analysis of treatment toxicity and quality assurance
Recent publications (2022-2025) demonstrate a strong focus on artificial intelligence applications in radiotherapy, including automated error detection, MRI-guided treatment, and machine learning for quality assurance. Over 85% of his latest articles involve AI/automation in clinical workflows.
Awards & Commercialization:
- US Patent for radiotherapy technology
- Research software licensed for commercial development
He advises doctoral students in UCLA's CAMPEP-accredited Physics and Biology in Medicine program and teaches graduate courses including Image-Guided Radiotherapy and Advanced Treatment Planning. He serves on the AAPM Subcommittee for Oversight of the MedPhys Match and is an ASTRO member.
