Jack K. Magaw

Jack K. Magaw is a Chicago-based professional Scenic Designer and Adjunct Professor at The Theatre School at DePaul University. He has been teaching all areas of stage design and technology at both undergraduate and graduate levels since 2000. Magaw earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Arts and English Literature from Vanderbilt University in 1985 and a Master of Fine Arts in Stage Design from Northwestern University in 1991.

Magaw's research and professional interests focus on scenic design, theatrical production, stage design technology, model building, and digital design for theater. With over 370 professional theatrical productions to his credit, his work spans musicals, contemporary drama, historical theater, and experimental works. His design approach integrates traditional techniques with digital visualization, creating environments that serve both narrative and emotional needs of productions.

His recent work demonstrates expertise across diverse genres including musical theater (ANASTASIA, CABARET), historical drama (NINA SIMONE: FOUR WOMEN, SILENT SKY), and experimental theater (HOW TO BREAK, LEGACY LAND). Magaw's designs often incorporate symbolic elements, period authenticity, and innovative spatial configurations that enhance storytelling while addressing practical production needs.
