Jaap Koot

Jaap Koot is a Researcher in the Global Health Unit at the Department of Health Sciences, part of the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the University of Groningen. His work focuses on non-communicable diseases (NCDs), cervical cancer prevention, and public health strategies in low-resource settings. He holds an MBA and is a Medical Doctor, combining clinical expertise with health policy research.

Research interests include cost-effectiveness analysis of cervical cancer screening, hypertension and diabetes prevention in Southeast Asia, and scaling up community-based health interventions. He has contributed to studies in Bangladesh, Uganda, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Myanmar, emphasizing culturally adapted approaches and policy engagement.

Recent publications highlight challenges in digital screening for older adults, training community volunteers, and evaluating HPV testing strategies. He collaborates internationally, contributing to global health initiatives such as the Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases. Koot also serves as a trainer for NCD prevention and sits on the Board of Foundation Quality Office Social Medicine.
