Dr Juline Beaujouan is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Law and a core member of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Evidence Platform (PeaceRep). She holds a PhD in Politics from Durham University and additional qualifications in Arabic Studies and International Relations. Her research focuses on complex conflicts in the Middle East, particularly examining peace processes, fragmented conflict dynamics, and the evolving role of non-state actors in peacemaking. She actively contributes to the PA-X peace agreements database and advises European policymakers on foreign affairs in conflict zones like Iraq and Syria.

- Roles: Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Middle East Institute (Washington D.C.), Senior Researcher at Open Think Tank (Kurdistan Region of Iraq), Fellow of the HH Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah Programme.
- Teaching: Convenes postgraduate courses on conflict transition and humanitarian work in conflict zones, certified by the Higher Education Academy.
- Administrative: Member of Edinburgh Law School’s EDI and Research Ethics Committees, and external ethics reviewer for Salahaddin University-Erbil.
Her research integrates fieldwork insights with quantitative analysis to address gaps in global peace processes. Key themes include the adaptability of peace agreements to fragmented conflicts and the role of religious and civil society actors in preventing extremism. She co-authored Islam, IS and the Fragmented State (Routledge, 2021) and edited volumes on Syrian refugees and resilience to extremism.
Dr Beaujouan’s awards include the Best Dataset CDCS Digital Research Prize (2023) and the Royal Society of Edinburgh Mary Somerville Medal (2023). Her work bridges academia and policy, emphasizing community engagement and evidence-based solutions to conflict challenges.
