J.D. Thayer is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Gonzaga University, where he has taught since 2002. He holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Oregon, an M.A. in English from California State University, and a B.A. in English from California State University. His primary affiliation is with Gonzaga University's English department.

Thayer specializes in medieval literature with concentrated expertise in Old English (particularly Beowulf) and Middle English (notably Chaucer's Canterbury Tales).
