J. Johnson is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Western University's Faculty of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. and is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
- Research Focus: Orthopaedic biomechanics, particularly upper limb mechanics, implant fixation to bone, kinematic motion analysis, fracture fixation stability, and joint load transfer mechanisms.
- Techniques: Electromagnetic tracking systems, custom limb simulators, and bi-axial servo-hydraulic testing machines.
The research laboratory, located at the Lawson Health Research Institute, employs a "benchtop-to-bedside" methodology to translate laboratory discoveries into clinical applications for patient care improvement.
