Prof. Dr. J. (Hans) Kromhout is a Professor at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University, affiliated with the Institute for Risk Assessment Sciences (IRAS) and the One Health Chemical research domain. His expertise spans occupational hygiene and epidemiology, focusing on health effects of chemical and physical agents like electromagnetic fields, pesticides, and ultrafine particles. He has led large international studies in industries such as asphalt, rubber, and agriculture, as well as community-based research on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
- Current projects include occupational exposure to chromium-6 and pesticides linked to prostate/breast cancer.
- Chair of the Working Group 2 for the European Code Against Cancer (ECAC5) update.
- Editor-in-Chief of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (BMJ Publishers).
Research areas include Life Sciences and Pathways to Sustainability. He has contributed to media discussions on glyphosate, MRI scanner risks, EMF exposure, and Parkinson’s disease-pesticide links since 2014.
- Secondary roles: Advisor to WHO on radiofrequency fields, member of advisory boards for Annals of Work Environment and Health and La Isla Network.
