معرفی
J David Symons is a Professor in the Department of Nutrition & Integrative Physiology at the University of Utah and holds an adjunct professorship in Internal Medicine. His research focuses on vascular dysfunction, aging, autophagy, and the interplay between nutrition and cardiovascular health. He has held academic positions since 2001, including Assistant Professor (2001-2005), Associate Professor (2006-2013), and Professor (2013-present).
Education: Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Oregon (1980-1985), followed by postdoctoral training at the Defense and Civil Institute of Environmental Medicine (1985-1987) and the University of California, Davis (1987-1990).
Research interests include mechanisms of vascular aging, endothelial cell autophagy, and the role of dietary interventions (e.g., strawberries, blueberries) in mitigating cardiovascular complications. He has received numerous awards, including Fellowships from the American Physiological Society and the American Heart Association.
Grants: Over 30 grants from NIH, American Heart Association, and others, focusing on autophagy, stroke, and metabolic syndrome. Recent grants include projects on endothelial cell metabolism in stroke recovery and ceramide metabolism in cardiovascular outcomes.
Awards: Danish Cardiovascular Academy Visiting Professorship (2024), Elected Fellow of the American Physiological Society (2023), and recognition for mentorship in undergraduate research (2023).
