Iwan Barankay is an Associate Professor of Management and Business Economics and Public Policy at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. His research focuses on designing monetary and non-monetary incentives to enhance workplace productivity, cooperation, and health behavior through field experiments.

Barankay’s work bridges behavioral economics with practical applications in personnel economics and health incentives. Through randomized control trials, he investigates how financial and social incentives impact medication adherence, physical activity, and workplace dynamics.
His recent research includes a RO1 NIH $2.3M grant to study long-term health habit formation. His publications span major economics journals like Econometrica and Review of Economic Studies, alongside medical journals such as JAMA Network Open.
