Benjamin Schoefer is an Associate Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in macroeconomics and labor economics. He also holds a Research Fellow position at the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research Halle (IWH) since 2022.

His research focuses on labor economics, corporate finance, and macroeconomic theory, with a particular emphasis on worker voice, labor productivity, and firm dynamics. Recent articles highlight trends in input substitution, wage rigidity, and collective bargaining, often leveraging empirical data from Germany, the U.S., and Scandinavia. He collaborates extensively with Simon Jäger, Suresh Naidu, and others, contributing to policy discussions on labor market institutions and European competitiveness.
Schoefer is a Research Associate at NBER (Economic Fluctuations & Growth, Monetary, Public, Labor), Research Affiliate at CEPR, and Research Fellow at IZA. He directs the Labor Center for the Study of Aggregate Labor Markets and serves as Associate Editor of the Journal of Monetary Economics.
