Iván Andrés-Alba

Iván Andrés-Alba is an Assistant Professor (PAD) in the Department of Classical Philology at the Universidad de Murcia, Faculty of Arts and Humanities. He previously held the position of invited lecturer (PDI-Honorario) at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where he also completed his Ph.D. in Ancient Studies in 2023. His academic journey includes a predoctoral FPU fellowship (2018–2023) and visiting research stays at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena.

His research lies at the intersection of Cognitive Linguistics and Classical Philology, with a focus on Ancient Greek semantics, particularly the anatomical lexicon, metaphor, metonymy, and semantic change in Homeric Greek. He also investigates Ancient Greek dialects and Indo-European linguistics. His work combines philological rigor with cognitive frameworks to explore how language reflects conceptual structures.

The trend in his recent publications (2023–2025) shows a sustained focus on the cognitive underpinnings of body part terminology in Ancient Greek, especially the eyes, ears, limbs, and genitalia, analyzing how conceptual metaphors and semantic shifts shape lexical meaning. He also publishes on pedagogical innovation in classical language teaching, including the use of AI, audiobooks, and active methodologies.
