Ivy Walz serves as Associate Dean for Faculty, Research, Creativity, and Outreach at Texas Tech University's J.T. & Margaret Talkington College of Visual and Performing Arts while holding the position of Associate Professor of Voice in the School of Music. With over twenty-five years of professional experience, she is a distinguished mezzo-soprano and vocal educator committed to creating joy-filled learning environments that develop technical skill, self-expression, and artistry through servant leadership.
Her academic credentials include:
- Bachelor of Music ('98) in Music Education and Performance from Ithaca College
- Master of Music ('02) in Vocal Performance from Ithaca College
- Doctor of Musical Arts ('14) in Voice Performance with cognate in Vocal Pedagogy from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music
Dr. Walz's scholarly and artistic work centers on Voice Performance and Vocal Pedagogy with specialized focus on integrative approaches supporting vocal longevity, artistry, and wellbeing. She is internationally recognized for her expertise in contemporary art songs by living composers and music by women, frequently performing at prestigious venues including the International Music by Women Festival and SongFest. Her research integrates performance practice with pedagogical innovation across classical and contemporary singing styles.
In her administrative capacity, she actively facilitates faculty research collaborations, grant acquisition, and tenure/promotion support while guiding students through scholarship applications and creative activity awards. Her mentorship has cultivated successful careers for students in graduate programs, K-12 education, and community arts initiatives.
