Prof. Ivan Pejić, PhD, is a Full Professor at the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Agriculture in the Department of Plant Breeding, Genetics, and Biometrics. He has held academic positions since 1987, with a tenure as Full Professor since 2016. His career includes serving as Assistant Minister for Science and Technology (2014-2016) and leading major research initiatives in molecular plant breeding.
- Academic Qualifications: Doctor of Science (1992-1996), Master of Science in Maize Heterotic Patterns (1988-1992), and BSc in Agriculture (1982-1986).
- Research Interests: Focus on drought resistance in crops, genetic fingerprinting of cultivars, molecular marker applications, grapevine clonal selection, and climate-resilient plant breeding.
- Projects: Coordinated EU-funded projects like Breeding European Legumes for Sustainability and national initiatives on genetic adaptation of maize and soybean to drought. Led ERDF-funded research on grapevine drought tolerance.
- Courses: Taught Molecular Plant Breeding, Plant Breeding for Stress Resistance, and Plant Biotechnology at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
