Dr. Iulia Cioroianu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Politics, Languages, and International Studies at the University of Bath and a faculty member of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Accountable, Responsible and Transparent AI (ART-AI). She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from New York University and an M.A. from Central European University. Her research focuses on computational methods applied to online political communication, including natural language processing, machine learning, and agent-based modeling. She has expertise in cryptocurrency markets, digital health technologies, and election dynamics. Currently leading projects on AI policy, social media sentiment analysis, and diabetic foot ulcer care, she has collaborated with institutions like the British Academy and the Economic and Social Research Council. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and innovation.
Previous roles include Prize Fellow at the University of Bath’s Institute for Policy Research (2018) and research positions at the University of Exeter and LSE. Teaching includes courses on research design in R, Python, and Stata. She advises doctoral students in sociotechnical futures, digital methods, and AI ethics.
Research highlights include analyzing social media homophily among political candidates, cryptocurrency volatility linked to central bank digital currencies, and digital health interventions for chronic diseases. Key projects include developing AI tools for policy analysis and evaluating voting advice applications’ impact on electoral turnout.
