Isla Masson is a Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Leicester and MSc Course Convenor. Her research focuses on the intersection of incarceration, maternal identity, family dynamics, and systemic support for vulnerable populations within the criminal justice system.
- Current research projects include editing a Handbook on women’s experiences of the criminal justice system (Routledge), funded studies on families of remand prisoners (Oakdale Trust) and care leavers in prison, and a previous project with the Restorative Justice Council (Barrow Cadbury Trust).
- She volunteers with the Independent Monitoring Board at HMP Onley, co-founded the Women, Families, Crime and Justice Network, and contributed to social enterprise initiatives at HMP Ryehill.
- Prior work with New Bridge focused on post-release support for prisoners in London.
