Isidre Gibert Gonzalez is an Associate Professor of Microbiology at the Department of Genetics and Microbiology, Faculty of Biosciences, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) since 1989. He leads the Molecular Genetics and Bacterial Pathogenesis research group at the Institute of Biotechnology and Biomedicine (IBB) since 1998. His research focuses on bacterial molecular genetics, particularly understanding the molecular basis of bacterial pathogenesis and drug resistance, with a focus on Stenotrophomonas maltophilia. He has coordinated multiple EU and national projects, including collaborations with Dr. Xavier Daura’s computational biology group.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Biological Sciences (1988)
- Licenciatura en Ciencias Biológicas (1984)
Research Interests: Bacterial virulence factors, quorum sensing mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance, and development of novel antimicrobial strategies. His recent work targets quorum sensing regulatory networks in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia to design antibiofilm and antimicrobial therapies.
Recent Projects:
- QUORUM-SENSING-DEPENDENT RESPONSE REGULATORS (2024–2028): Developing antimicrobial strategies targeting quorum sensing.
- QUORUM SENSING REGULATORY NETWORKS (2020–2024): Investigating therapeutic alternatives to antibiotics.
Grants & Patents: Submitted a European patent (EP15167740.8) for a novel antimicrobial agent enhancing colistin efficacy. Principal investigator on projects funded by EU, MICINN, and Obra Social la Caixa.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Molecular Genetics and Bacterial Pathogenesis group at IBB, focusing on genomic and computational approaches to study pathogenesis and drug resistance.
