Ishani Tewari is an applied microeconomist whose research spans two primary streams: development economics with a focus on gender issues and banking and finance. Her work frequently examines economic growth patterns, financial development impacts, and labor market dynamics, particularly in emerging economies. She has conducted significant research on China's economic development, Indian manufacturing policy, and U.S. financial markets. Tewari is known for her rigorous empirical approach that combines economic theory with real-world data to address pressing policy questions.
Her scholarly output shows a clear trajectory from early work on U.S. financial markets toward increasing focus on emerging economies, particularly India and China. While her earliest publications examined U.S. mortgage markets and financial deregulation, her more recent work investigates gender dynamics in electoral outcomes, durable goods adoption in China, and service sector globalization. This evolution reflects a growing interest in the interplay between economic development, gender, and policy interventions in non-Western contexts.
