Dr. Isabelle C. Winder is a Senior Lecturer in Zoology at Bangor University's School of Environmental and Natural Sciences. She serves as Director of Equality and Diversity for her school and holds external positions as an Academic Visitor at Hull-York Medical School and a Research Associate at the University of York. Her work bridges evolutionary anthropology with educational innovation.
- Research Focus: Primatology, functional morphology, biogeography, and niche modelling.
- Educational Projects: 2024 SEDA-funded AI integration and 2024 Advance HE toolkit development.
Her research explores primate evolution through morphometrics and climate change impacts on primate distributions. She also investigates science communication, co-authoring The Behavioural Ecology of Project-Based Science. Her 15 most recent publications span topics from snake phylogeny to ancient Chinese anatomy and multimodal learning frameworks.
Scientific Awards
- Bangor University Teaching Fellowship (2022)
- Curl Lectureship (2025)
- 'Making the Difference' Award (2013)
- Folia Primatologica Editor's Choice (2014)
- Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching (2011)
She mentors PhD students in evolutionary anthropology and collaborates on projects involving primate locomotion, human origins, and educational technology. Her lab integrates evolutionary theory with practical applications in science communication and teaching methodologies.
