Isabel Schnabel

Isabel Schnabel is a Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) since 2020, responsible for Market Operations, Research and Statistics. She is currently on leave from the University of Bonn, where she has been Professor of Financial Economics since 2015.

Her educational background includes a PhD in Economics from the University of Mannheim. Her professional experience encompasses serving as a member of the German Council of Economic Experts (2014-2019) and as Co-Chair of the Franco-German Council of Economic Experts in 2019.

Professor Schnabel's research focuses on financial stability, banking regulation, international capital flows, and economic history. Her work has been published in leading journals including the Review of Financial Studies, the Journal of International Economics, the Journal of the European Economic Association, and the Journal of Economic History. She has conducted significant research on systemic risk, bank resolution frameworks, euro area architecture, and the economic implications of climate change.

Her scientific recognition includes:
