معرفی
Isabel Pires is a Lecturer in Cancer Biology at The University of Manchester, UK, and holds a PhD in Pharmacology from The University of Manchester. Her research focuses on hypoxia biology in cancer, including its role in therapy resistance, metastasis, and novel biomarkers. She also investigates interstitial fluid flow (IFF) and microfluidic models like the 'spheroid-on-chip' to study tumor microenvironment interactions.
Education:
- PhD in Pharmacology, The University of Manchester (2003–2007)
- Licenciatura in Biology, Universidade de Coimbra, Portugal (1997–2002)
Research Interests:
Her lab explores three main areas: (1) hypoxia as a biomarker for disease outcomes, (2) hypoxia-targeted therapies to enhance radiotherapy efficacy, and (3) the interplay between IFF and hypoxia in tumor progression. Recent work includes developing microfluidic platforms to model tumor biology under flow conditions.
Grants & Leadership:
- Team leader of a £340k University of Hull PhD studentship cluster (2019–2023)
- ARR Trustee and member of the LH Gray Memorial Trust (2022–present)
Labs/Teams:
Utilizes advanced microfluidic technologies and in vitro 3D models to study tumor microenvironment dynamics and therapeutic responses.
