Isabel Maria Perez da Silva Babo Lança

Isabel Maria Perez da Silva Babo Lança serves as Vice-Rector for Internationalisation and Cooperation at Lusófona University in Lisbon, Portugal. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Communication, Architecture, Arts and Information Technologies (FCAATI) and conducts research at CICANT - Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies.

Her academic credentials include a PhD and D.E.A. in Sociology from the École des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales in Paris, an Aggregation in Communication Sciences from the University of Minho, and a Degree in Philosophy from the University of Porto.

Professor Lança specializes in the sociology of communication, sociology of events and audiences, activism, and digital social networks. Her work particularly focuses on feminist movements, populism, and climate activism, examining how digital platforms shape contemporary social movements and public discourse. She has developed a distinctive approach to studying networked activism and the dynamics of visibility in social movements.

Her recent publications reveal a consistent research trajectory examining how marginalized groups gain visibility and recognition through digital platforms, with particular attention to feminist movements in Portugal and globally. Her work bridges theoretical frameworks from sociology with practical analysis of contemporary digital communication phenomena.

As a Principal Investigator, she has led significant research projects including 'Ativismo em Rede e Plataformas Colaborativas' examining activism following the 2017 fires in Portugal, and 'FEMglocal' focusing on global feminist movements and their contradictions.

Professor Lança teaches in FCAATI's doctoral program in Communication and Activism and master's programs in communication sciences, mentoring the next generation of scholars in media studies and social movement analysis.
