Sofia P. Caldeira

Sofia P. Caldeira is a researcher at CICANT - Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies at Lusófona University's School of Communication, Arts and Information. She earned a PhD in Communication Sciences from Ghent University (2020) with funding from Portugal's FCT and was a Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral fellow at CICANT.

Her research focuses on feminist media studies, digital cultures, social media, gender representation politics, and everyday politics. She explores tensions in platformized feminist practices on Instagram, including ambivalence in digital activism and the neoliberalization of activist influencer practices.

Recent publications analyze Instagram's role in feminist movements, gender representation on Google PlayStore, and the affective dimensions of online activisms. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to gender equality and digital citizenship.

She contributes to academic networks through organizing events like the ECREA pre-conference workshop and participates in projects such as FEMglocal (glocal feminist movements) and On&Off (digital media and disconnection). International collaborations include visiting researcher roles at CAIS (Germany) and Universität Salzburg.
