Isabel Balseiro is a Professor of Comparative Literature in the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Arts at Harvey Mudd College. Her research spans African and Latin American literatures, Global South cinema, postcolonial studies, and translation theory.

Dr. Balseiro's work centers on postcolonial literary and cinematic expressions, particularly in South Africa. She has edited volumes on post-apartheid literature and South African film, and authored a critical edition of poet María Acuña's work. Her publications reveal a sustained focus on South African cultural production across literature and film, with recurring themes of race, history, and translation.
