Isaac Hale is an Assistant Professor of Politics at Occidental College, where he has taught courses on political institutions, research methodology, and elections since 2022. He holds a B.A. from Occidental College and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California, Davis (2020). Prior to his current role, Hale served as an Equity Research Postdoctoral Scholar at UC Santa Barbara’s Blum Center on Poverty, Inequality, and Democracy (2020-2021) and as a Lecturer of Political Science at UC Davis (2020-2021).
Hale’s research agenda focuses on how racial attitudes and electoral institution design undermine representation in developed democracies. His cross-national work spans the United States, Chile, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Recent publications examine racial resentment’s impact on legislative representation, electoral systems’ effects on voter efficacy, and the interplay between economic concerns and public health during the 2020 U.S. elections. He has also contributed to initiatives addressing systemic inequality in California and electoral reform in North America.
Hale’s 15 most recent articles reflect trends in racial attitudes, strategic voting, and electoral system design across multiple countries. His work has been published in leading academic journals, though no specific scientific awards are mentioned. Hale maintains a professional website (isaacdhale.com) and can be contacted via email at halei@oxy.edu.
