Irmtraud Ohme

Irmtraud Ohme (1937–2002) was a Professor of Metal and Enamel Design at Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle. She served as head of the Department of Metal/Enamel Design from 1981 and later led the Department of Plastik/Metall. Her career spanned over four decades, starting with studies in industrial design (1955–1960) and progressing through roles as an industrial designer, assistant, and eventually professor. She was a member of the VBK-DDR since 1973.

Her research focused on enamel art, metal design, and material experimentation. She participated in over 250 exhibitions globally, including key shows in Dessau, Halle, and international venues. Her work earned prestigious awards such as the Nationalpreis III (1987) and Kunstpreis Sachsen-Anhalt (2001).
