Dr. Iris Pearson is a College Lecturer in English at the University of Oxford, affiliated with University College and Lincoln College. She specializes in 20th- and 21st-century literature, focusing on experimental forms, affect theory, and comparative criticism across English, Spanish, and Japanese literatures. Her research explores how formal innovations in novels cultivate ambivalent readerly emotions like indifference or weariness. Currently, she holds a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) fellowship for a project on Japanese writer Mieko Kanai and is part of the 'Creating Criticism' initiative, which bridges creative and critical writing. Her work also addresses magical realism’s affective dimensions and postcolonial world literatures.
