Dr. Irina Shklovski is an Associate Professor in the Technologies in Practice and Interaction Design (IxD) research groups at the IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Her work bridges Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Information Sciences, and Communication Studies, focusing on social networks, privacy, disaster response, and location-based technologies. She holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction from Carnegie Mellon University (2007).
Research Focus: Examines how local contexts shape technology adoption and how global digital flows influence local practices. Key themes include privacy in mobile apps, digital civic engagement in authoritarian regimes, and sociotechnical systems' role in disaster recovery. She collaborates with data scientists to analyze large social network datasets through mixed-methods approaches.
Teaching: Instructs courses on Digital Media & Communication, Network Society, and Qualitative Research Methods. Her teaching emphasizes critical engagement with technology's societal impacts.
