Irina Mutafchiyska

Dr. Irina Mutafchiyska serves as Senior Assistant Professor at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Sofia, Bulgaria. She is affiliated with the Faculty of Architecture, Department of Urban Planning, where she maintains office A1007 and holds reception hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 09:00-12:00.

Education:

Dr. Mutafchiyska specializes in urban and regional planning with research interests spanning spatial planning methodologies, urban economics, housing policy, and geographic information systems. Her work emphasizes practical applications of planning theory to contemporary urban challenges in Bulgaria and Europe. She has contributed to several significant research projects focusing on spatial planning capacity building and urban regeneration strategies.

Her teaching portfolio includes comprehensive coursework across both bachelor's and master's programs in Urbanism. At the bachelor's level, she teaches Contemporary Europe, Socio-economic Statistics, Regional and Urban Economics, Regional Planning, Urbanism and Administration, and Housing Policy. For master's students, she leads courses on General Development Planning, Project Management, Integrated Planning Projects, and Regional and Urban Statistics.

Dr. Mutafchiyska is an active member of the Union of Urban Planners in Bulgaria (UUB) and has participated in multiple research initiatives including optimization of spatial planning expertise in Bulgaria, application of open-source GIS in spatial planning, and integrated approaches to urban regeneration and development.

Her research collaborations include working under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arch. Milena Tasheva-Petrova and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arch. Elena Dimitrova on projects funded through UACEG's Central Research Institute. She maintains professional proficiency in English and continues to contribute to the advancement of urban planning education and practice in Bulgaria.
