Irfan Hussain is an Assistant Professor in Robotics and Mechanical Engineering at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi, UAE. He holds a PhD in Robotics from the University of Siena, Italy, and has extensive postdoctoral experience at Khalifa University and the Siena Robotics and Systems Lab. His research spans Marine Robotics, Healthcare Robotics, and Industrial Robotics, with a focus on AI-driven systems, compliant manipulation, and human-robot interaction.

- Marine Robotics for deep-sea monitoring and GNSS-denied navigation
- Healthcare Robotics for post-stroke rehabilitation and wearable assistive devices
- Industrial Robotics focusing on compliant manipulation and AI-driven automation
- Agricultural Robotics for greenhouse farming and aquaculture monitoring
- Human-Robot Interaction via haptic interfaces and embodied intelligence
- Environmental Monitoring Robotics for coral reef inspection and port security
He leads projects under KU Center for Autonomous Robotic Systems (KUCARS) and collaborates with Stanford University on marine robotics. His editorial roles include Associate Editor for the Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C and Guest Editor for the Sensors Special Issue on Vision-Based Tactile Sensors.
Current research teams at his lab include Postdoctoral Fellows like Muhayyuddin Ahmed, Ahmad Aljarah, and Waseem Akram, alongside PhD students Atif Sultan, Muhammad Salman, and Mahmoud Said Elmezain, among others. He is actively recruiting Postdoctoral Researchers in Autonomous Manipulation, Marine Robotics, and Agri Robotics.
