Irene Ivantcheva-Merjanska is an Associate Professor in the RALL Department at the University of Cincinnati. She has held roles including Undergraduate Studies Director (2019-2024), French Coordinator, and Educator Assistant Professor. Her academic background includes a Ph.D. in French and Francophone literature from the University of Cincinnati (2011) and a Ph.D. in Literary Studies from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (2001). She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies (2009) and a Teaching Online Certificate (2022).
Her research focuses on Foreign Language Teaching, Francophone Literature, Postcolonial Studies, and Women’s Studies. Notable works include Ecrire dans l’autre langue: Assia Djebar et Julia Kristeva (2015) and Glasove na jeni v balgarskata poesia (2015). She has presented widely at international conferences, including at Humboldt University, Berlin, and the African Literature Association.
Irene has received awards such as the Distinguished Dissertation Completion Fellowship (2010-2011) and the University Research Council Award. She has served editorial roles for the Cincinnati Romance Review and chaired the Cincinnati Conference on Romance Languages and Literatures. Her service also includes roles on the Ohio Department of Education’s TAG Review Committee.
