Irene Castro Fernández

Irene Castro Fernández is a PhD student and researcher in the Optomechanics Group at the Institute of Materials Science of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC), focusing on classical and quantum sensing using nanostructured membranes, photonic/phononic crystals, and topological waveguides.

• Education:
  • B.Sc. in Physics (Fundamental Physics specialty) from Complutense University of Madrid (UCM)
  • M.Sc. in Condensed Matter Physics (Nanophysics and Biological Systems) from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)

She has been awarded the Collaboration Scholarship from Spain’s Ministry of Education (2020) and the JAE Intro-CSIC Scholarship, which funded her research at the Institute of Micro and Nanotechnology (IMN-CSIC) with the Bionanomechanics Group. Her Master’s Thesis earned the 2021 Talent Acquisition Award in Technological Innovation from Madrid City Council.
