Dr Iraphne Childs is an Honorary Senior Fellow at the School of the Environment, University of Queensland. She holds a PhD from the University of Hawaii and has extensive experience in geography education and disaster research. Previously, she was a Senior Lecturer at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and directed their Geography program. Her research focuses on natural hazards governance, climate change impacts, disaster management, and Southeast Asian urban development. She has collaborated with institutions like the Queensland Centre for Population Research and conducted fieldwork in Bangladesh and Southeast Asian cities. Dr Childs volunteers with the Australian Red Cross, providing disaster relief during cyclones and floods in Queensland. She has authored over 30 publications including journal articles on cyclone risk modeling, slum upgrading, and refugee settlement patterns.
