Irīna Boiko

Professor Irīna Boiko is a faculty member at Riga Technical University's Faculty of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, holding appointments in the Institute of Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering and serving as an Intellectual Property Specialist in the Cooperation and Technology Transfer Department. With a research career spanning tribology, surface engineering, and materials science, she leads the Advanced Material Tribology and Surface Characterization Professor Group.

Her research encompasses:

• Nanostructured smart coatings for high-tech applications
• Computational wear modeling using fatigue principles
• Tribological performance of transition metal coatings
• Recycling technologies for composite materials

She has supervised six doctoral theses to completion and currently mentors early-career researchers in surface characterization techniques.

Professor Boiko teaches courses including Fundamentals of Patent Law, CAE Software in Mechanical Engineering, and Welding Technologies, integrating her research expertise into the engineering curriculum.
