Professor Iolo Madoc-Jones is a Professor of Criminal and Social Justice at Wrexham Glyndŵr University since 2018. A first-language Welsh speaker, he transitioned from a career as a Probation Officer and Senior Probation Officer to academia. He holds an MSc in Forensic Behavioural Science and a PhD (2010) examining Welsh language use within Wales' Criminal Justice System.
His roles include Associate Inspector with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Probation since 2004, evaluating community and custodial offending behaviour interventions. He leads the Cyfiawnder: Social Inclusion Research Centre at Wrexham University. Research focuses on probation systems, prison dynamics, homelessness, and policy evaluations. Notable projects include Welsh Government-funded studies on homeless services post-incarceration and the 2015 Wales Housing Act provisions.
He has contributed to academic conferences and journals in criminology and social work, and advised on the Welsh Substance Misuse Strategy. Doctoral supervision is offered in his core areas of probation, prisons, and homelessness.
