Ioannis Theodoridis is a Research Fellow at the Norwegian Academy of Music (Department of Music Education and Music Therapy). His PhD research focuses on physical struggles among music students, integrating systems theory, motor control, health sociology, and occupational health perspectives. He employs interdisciplinary methods including motion capture, muscle readings, and mixed-methods approaches to investigate the interplay between physical well-being and musical education.
Supervised by Professor Siw Graabræk Nielsen and Dr. Martin Warner (University of Southampton), his work addresses gaps in understanding how physical skills are learned and maintained in music education. Key research areas include health discourses, embodied learning, and injury prevention in higher music education contexts. He has contributed to projects such as the International Student Survey on Musicians' Health (2024–2025) and the CERM-funded study on physical struggles in music students.
His publications span topics from conference meta-perspectives to biomechanical analyses, reflecting a commitment to both practical and theoretical contributions. Notably, his research challenges traditional 'healthy/injured' dichotomies to foster holistic pedagogical approaches.
