Injy Johnstone is a Research Fellow in Net-Zero Aligned Offsetting at the University of Oxford and an Associate Member of St Antony’s College. A legal scholar and international environmental law expert, she explores the intersection of net-zero commitments, carbon markets, and legal norm development through her PhD and subsequent research.
- Education: LLM in Environmental and Energy Law (Fulbright scholar, University of Colorado-Boulder), LLB (First Class Hons, Victoria University of Wellington), BSc in Physical Geography and Economics (University of Otago)
- Advisory Roles: Technical Review Editor for UNEP’s 7th Global Environment Outlook Report; member of UNFCCC’s Article 6.4 Expert Roster, GRI’s technical sub-group on carbon credits, GHG Protocol’s working group, and advisory boards for the Carbon Coalition and C-Naught
Research Focus: Her work addresses net-zero alignment in domestic and international policies, emphasizing carbon market integrity, climate governance, and the legal frameworks shaping carbon dioxide removal (CDR) and energy transition strategies in ASEAN and beyond. Publications analyze OECD environmental policies, open science in SDG 13 implementation, and the role of universities as norm entrepreneurs.
