Ingrid V. Bassett serves as Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of the Harvard University Center for AIDS Research (HU CFAR), where she also holds a position on the Executive Committee. Her work is anchored within Harvard University's medical research ecosystem, driving interdisciplinary collaboration across virology, clinical medicine, and public health initiatives to combat the HIV epidemic.
Dr. Bassett's research centers on HIV/AIDS with specific emphasis on substance use interactions, hepatitis co-infections, and malignancy pathways in immunocompromised populations. She actively leads multiple scientific working groups including the Substance Use and HIV SWG, Hepatitis and HIV SWG, and HIV and Malignancy SWG, while contributing to the Inter-CFAR Collaboration on HIV Research in Women and Placental HIV programs. Her approach integrates laboratory science with community-engaged methodologies through the CFAR's Bio-behavioral and Community Science Core.
As HU CFAR Co-Director, she oversees critical infrastructure including the Advanced Lab Technologies Core for viral reservoir analysis, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics Core for clinical trial modeling, and Clinical Core for antiretroviral intervention studies. Her leadership directly supports NIH Ending the HIV Epidemic initiatives and health economics modeling to optimize resource allocation in global treatment programs.
