Prof. Dr. Ingrid Schneider is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Hamburg, affiliated with the Department of Computer Science within the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences. She leads the Research Unit Ethics in Information Technology and is part of the Hamburg Center for Bio-Governance. Her work focuses on governance of emerging technologies, digitalization impacts on democracy, and ethical challenges in biomedicine and information technology. She holds a Habilitation in Political Science (2010) and has held academic roles since 2014.
Research interests include big data governance, transnational healthcare policies, intellectual property rights in biotechnology, and the intersection of law, ethics, and technology. She has published widely on digital democracy, medical tourism regulation, and legal frameworks for biotechnology innovation.
Her notable work includes co-editing The Politics and Policies of Big Data (2020) and contributing to studies on EU patent law implications for synthetic biology. She advises on PhD/Master/Bachelor theses and participates in interdisciplinary research initiatives addressing societal impacts of digital transformation.
Prof. Schneider is actively involved in academic governance, including roles in the German Bundestag’s Enquete Commission on Medical Law Ethics (2000–2002) and editorial work for academic publishing houses. She collaborates with institutions like the Hamburg Center for Bio-Governance to bridge policy, ethics, and technological advancement.
