Lecturer Prof. Dr. Hilmar Schneider is affiliated with the University of Potsdam's Department of Empirical Economic Research. He also continues to lecture at the University of Luxembourg after being appointed as an honorary professor there in 2014.
His research focuses on labor market policy, social security, wage policy, demography, and the efficiency of active labor market programs. He has published extensively on topics like the labor market effects of social security, Eastern Germany's labor prospects, and European welfare states.
He held leadership roles at the Research Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA) in Bonn (2016-2022), Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) (2013-2016), and the Halle Institute for Economic Research's labor market department (1994-2016). Additional roles included membership in the German Census Commission, National Council for Social and Economic Data, and the Enquête Commission on the Digital World of Work in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Hilmar Schneider earned his doctorate in economics from the University of Frankfurt am Main in 1987 with research on unemployment duration determinants. He conducted habilitation at TU Darmstadt in 2007 and has taught statistics, econometrics, and labor market economics since the 1980s.
