Ingrid Laubrock serves as an Associate in Music Performance in the Department of Music at Columbia University, where she is an experimental saxophonist and composer renowned for creating multi-layered, dense sound worlds by exploring boundaries between musical realms. Her work has earned recognition as "one of the most distinctive rising compositional voices" (Point of Departure) and a "fully committed saxophonist and visionary" (The New Yorker).
Her creative practice spans Jazz Composition, Contemporary Classical Music, and Experimental Improvisation, with compositions ranging from duo formats to chamber orchestras. She actively performs with leading figures including Anthony Braxton, Muhal Richard Abrams, Jason Moran, and Mary Halvorson, demonstrating exceptional versatility across avant-garde and structured musical frameworks.
Major accolades include the Arts Foundation Fellowship in Jazz Composition, SWR German Radio Jazz Prize, German Record Critics Quarterly Award, Downbeat Critics Poll Rising Star Soprano Saxophonist (2015), Tenor Saxophonist (2018), and the 2019 Herb Alpert Ragdale Prize.
