He joined the university in October 2021 after previous positions at the University of Bonn (2020-2021) and Augustana-Hochschule Neuendettelsau (2011-2020). Klitzsch completed his doctorate at Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena in 2008 and habilitation at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen in 2019.
His research spans Reformation theology, Luther studies, medieval religious history, and interconfessional dialogue. Primary interests include Luther's table talks as historical sources, Reformation-era gender roles, 12th-century theological debates, and church history during the Weimar Republic. His work examines how theological ideas transform through historical transmission and cultural contexts.
Klitzsch's publications demonstrate consistent focus on Reformation reception history, with recent articles analyzing Lutheran memoria, urban religious conflicts, and theological responses to political crises. His scholarship connects medieval theology with early modern religious transformations through meticulous source analysis.
