Inge Nygaard Pedersen is an Emeritus Associate Professor and Clinic Leader at the Department of Communication and Psychology, Aalborg University, within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. She leads the CEDOMUS (Center for Documentation and Research in Music Therapy) and specializes in music therapy research, particularly in psychiatry. Her work focuses on schizophrenia treatment, sleep quality improvement for depression-related insomnia, and therapist identity development. She has led numerous projects, including a landmark randomized controlled trial (RCT) funded by TRYG Fonden investigating music therapy's efficacy for schizophrenia patients' negative symptoms.
Her research spans over 40 years, with key areas including clinical supervision, therapeutic alliance dynamics, and music therapy's role in mental health. She has published 197+ works, including books and peer-reviewed articles. Notable projects include the MUSTAFI study on music therapy and sleep quality, and a comparative analysis of European music therapy education programs. Pedersen has also contributed to training programs, emphasizing self-experience and artistic media in supervision.
