Inge Blockmans is an affiliated researcher at KU Leuven’s Institute for Family and Sexuality Studies (Department of Neurosciences) and Ghent University’s Faculty of Psychology and Pedagogical Sciences. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (KU Leuven, 2014-2019) alongside advanced degrees in Social Psychology (University of Surrey), Linguistics, and Literature/Linguistics (University of Antwerp). Her research focuses on communication barriers between individuals with differing physical abilities, social inclusion/exclusion dynamics, and the sexual well-being of women with spinal cord injury. Supported by a FWO fellowship, she employs qualitative methods like thematic analysis and auto-ethnography to explore these themes.
Blockmans is a VOCATIO-laureate (2013), leveraging this platform to disseminate research through accessible formats like public lectures and non-academic writing. Her publications span topics including disability disclosure in academic settings, multilingual healthcare challenges, and media’s impact on gender norms. She collaborates across disciplines, bridging social psychology, disability studies, and healthcare communication.
