Kristien Michielsen is a Senior Lecturer in Sexual Wellbeing Promotion and Relationship and Sexuality Education at the Interfaculty Institute for Family and Sexual Sciences (IFSS), KU Leuven. She holds a Master's in Political and Social Sciences (KU Leuven, 2001) and a PhD in Social Health Sciences (Ghent University, 2012), with over 15 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health research. Her work focuses on young people's sexual health, gender norms, comprehensive sex education, and HIV prevention in sub-Saharan Africa and Europe.

Kristien's research spans topics like parental involvement in sex education, inclusive sexual well-being measurement frameworks, and the impact of pornography on youth development. Her recent publications highlight cross-cultural analyses of consent practices, sexual behavior trends in Africa, and systems-based approaches to sex education polarization in Flanders.
She chairs Sensoa (Flemish expertise center on sexuality) and co-founded the interuniversity Master of Science in Global Health. At IFSS, she teaches courses like 'Introduction to Sexual Pedagogy' and is developing a graduation track on sexual health promotion. Kristien also coordinates international research initiatives addressing inequalities in HIV prevention and youth participation in health research.
