Dr. Inga Wilk serves as Deputy Head of the Institute of Animal Welfare and Animal Husbandry (ITT) at the Thünen Institute in Celle, Germany. As a veterinarian scientist (Dr. med. vet.), she leads critical research in animal welfare during slaughter processes for pigs and poultry.
Her research spans Animal Welfare, Slaughter Methods, and Stunning Techniques, with specialized focus on ethological and physiological parameters. She investigates electrical/gas stunning systems, alternative gases for pig stunning, poultry killing during epidemics, and optimization of procedures under EU Regulation 1099/2009 to enhance welfare outcomes in commercial settings.
Dr. Wilk actively develops stunning methodologies and technical parameters while expanding communication between research and practical applications through the Experimental Station Celle department.
