Ines Weinrich is a Visiting Research Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg, Heidelberg University (2015–2016), where she worked on 'The Dimensions of Sound in Islam – Travelling Aesthetics.' She holds a Ph.D. in Arabic Studies from Bamberg University (2002) and served as a Guest Professor for Islamic Studies at Heidelberg University. Previously, she was a Researcher at Heidelberg University (2013–2014) and a Research Associate at the Orient-Institut Beirut (2008–2013), and at Bamberg University (2002–2008).
Her research focuses on religious chanting (al-inšād ad-dīnī), Arabic literature and performance (poetry, folk theatre), Islamic rituals' aesthetic dimensions, and cultural transformations in 19th–early 20th century Arabic-speaking regions. She authored Fayrūz und die Brüder Raḥbānī (2006) and is preparing a monograph on religious chanting's role in Islamic practice.
She holds a Master's in Arabic Studies, Ethnomusicology, and Islamic Studies from Bamberg University (1996) and participated in the Graduate School for Contemporary Oriental Studies (Erlangen-Nürnberg and Bamberg, 1996–1999).
