Dr. Ines Hahn is a Lecturer in Biomedical Science at the Department of Biology, University of York. She holds a PhD in Molecular Biomedicine from the University of Bonn and a postdoctoral fellowship from the Leverhulme Trust. Her research focuses on cytoskeletal dynamics in neurons, particularly the role of GSK-3β in axonal development, aging, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. She explores mechanisms linking signaling pathways to microtubule regulation, using Drosophila and Xenopus models. Her work is funded by the Leverhulme Trust and Wellcome Trust, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to identify therapeutic strategies for neurodevelopmental disorders.
Dr. Hahn’s research also addresses Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), investigating how Nf1 loss impacts cytoskeletal regulation in neurons. She leads a lab focused on understanding signaling coordination in axons, integrating cell biology with functional electrophysiological studies. Her teaching emphasizes interactive, research-informed methods in cell biology, neuroscience, and genetics, promoting equity and inclusion in science through initiatives like the eLife Ambassador program and ManFly outreach.
Her scientific achievements include the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship (2017) and contributions to high-impact studies on microtubule polymerization and axonal maintenance. Her lab actively recruits motivated researchers to advance knowledge in neuronal cytoskeleton dynamics and disease mechanisms.
