Ineke Maas is an Endowed Professor in Sociology at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, holding the chair in Long term trends in social openness and exclusion. She is affiliated with the Social Inequality in the Life Course (SILC) research group and serves as vice-president of Research Committee 28 on Social Stratification and Mobility at the International Sociological Association since 2018. She also holds a position as Universitair hoofddocent at Utrecht University's Department of Sociology.
Her research focuses on intergenerational mobility, career mobility, marital mobility, and their historical and international comparisons. Additional areas include immigrant integration, educational inequality, and gender inequality. She has contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals addressing inequality reduction.
Her recent work explores intersectionality's role in benefit receipt, parental capital's impact on first-generation students, and gene-environment interactions in educational outcomes. She has published 58 research outputs and supervised 7 PhD theses.
Awards include the 2017 Best Paper Award from the German Sociological Association and the 2018 ISA Research Committee 28 Scholarship Award. Her collaborations span multiple countries and institutions, emphasizing global social inequality studies.
